St. Christopher

Feast Day: July 25
Patronage: Travelers/Motorists
Also known as Offero, he was a powerfully built man. He once came upon a hermit who lived near a treacherous river. The hermit guided travelers to safe places across the stream. Offero took over the hermit's mission, but unlike the hermit, he carried travelers to safety. One day, Offero carried a child to safety. The weight of the child upon his shoulders almost became too much to bear. When Offero and the child arrived safely, the child revealed himself as Christ. His weight was crushing because he held the weight of the world. Christ them baptized Offero, who became known as Christopher (Christ-bearer). Saint Christopher's patronage is related to travel because of his services.
